Årets underviser vil være Dr. Daniel Keown – forfatter til bogen: “The Spark in the Machine” How the science of Acupuncture explains the Mysteries of Western Medicine. Du kan finde eksempler på Dr. Keown´s forelæsninger på dette link: www.vimeo.com/ssoma . Undervisningen foregår på engelsk. Titlen på årets emne vil være: ” To understand the theory, practice and anatomy of Chinese Medicine from a Western; biomedical; and scientific view.”
Kl. 13.00 - 14.00 Kaffe og kage
Kl. 14.00 - 14.30 Registrering
Kl. 14.30 – Undervisningen starter, se detaljeret plan nedenfor; 1,5 hr.
What is Qi and the Channels – The Very Basics of Chinese Physiology
This lecture will concentrate on the basics of anatomy and embryology and seek to illustrate the central unanswered question about the body: how does the embryo organise itself? It will explain how Qi provides an answer to this question and furthermore by extension how the (acupuncture) channels emerge spontaneously from this view of the body.
Qi Physiology – 1hr
This lecture will go into the movement of Qi and how we can understand what is happening in normal physiology
Channel Physiology – 1hr
The channels are simply the fascial planes in the body. In this lecture Dr Keown will talk about how the Chinese described these channels and why this understanding is completely congruent with our Western descriptions of the body. We will also discuss the mysterious Triple Burner (San Jiao) and how it is not so mysterious after-all!
Questions 30 mins.
Kaffepauser I løbet af dagen, efter behov.
Kl.18.00 DMAS generalforsamling
Kl. 20.00 Fest- middag
Kl. 09.00 Undervisningen starter
1hr – Channel and Qi Pathology
After a brief reintroduction to the concepts on Friday lectures; Dr Keown will start explaining why and how Qi and Channels can go wrong. This moves on naturally to a discussion about the concepts of Qi stagnation, Qi deficiency etc.; and then on to Channel pathology and Channel diagnosis
1hr – The Substances
Understanding the substances is important to have a better grasp of Chinese medicine. The first substance – Qi – has already been covered so in this lecture we will move on to Essence, Blood and Fluids. All of these lectures are rooted firmly in biomedical science and the substances are explained along these lines.
In pathology, pathological substances can arise. These include Dampness, Phlegm, Heat and Cold. Once again Dr Keown will explain how we can understand these simple concepts from a biomedical point of view and how in doing so it actually makes our Eastern and Western diagnosis’ more accurate.
Rest of Day
The Six Channels
This is the meatiest part of the lectures as here we start delving into the physical body and channels.
The Chinese have always had a concept that each of the Six Channels ‘metabolises’ part of the external environment e.g. hot, cold, damp etc. Dr Keown will explain how these are in fact embryological layers that have emerged in order for the body to conquer the environment. Each layer and it’s corresponding organs will be explained in turn: including it’s resonances with emotions and our psycho-spiritual life.
These layers naturally emerge into the limbs where they form the channels. We will discuss the physical reality and anatomical description of each channel in turn and Dr Keown will add in some descriptions of his favourite points and how to find them.
Dr Keown will also explain here why, just as the Chinese have taught, the brain is not important in this understanding of the body.
This will naturally move on to some practical work with both humans and dogs where we can palpate the Channels - (although possibly this will be just ‘you’ when it comes to dogs- as Dr Keown isn’t a vet!)
Each layer and it’s corresponding organs will be explained in turn: including it’s resonances with emotions and our psycho-spiritual life.
Stress/mental/psychiatric – this was going to be an INTEGRAL part of my lectures and will be covered in the Six Channel part.
Kl. 13.00 – 14.00 Frokost, pauser efter behov.

Program for Søndag, 02.04.2017:
Kl. 09.00 Underevisningen starter
This day will start with a question and answer session going over the previous days work and clearing up any further questions.
Review of the Terrain So Far
A quick review of the previous days lectures covering anything that hasn’t been mentioned in the questions earlier
Putting It All Together
How do we make sense of all this information? How do we come to a rational decision about what points to use and which Channels? What do we expect from treatment? In this lecture Dr Keown will talk about a simple way of thinking about symptoms and how they might relate to points and Channels to give us a framework for choosing points.
The Extraordinary Channels
If time Dr Keown will talk about the Extraordinary Channels and how they can be understood in terms of anatomy and physiology.
